Grand Knight’s Message
I’m happy to announce we will be bringing back our annual cribbage tournament starting after the next general meeting. Please bring cribbage boards if you have any extra.
In addition to that, we will be bringing back our annual poker tournament in May. That will happen following the general meeting.
Lent is set to start on February 14th, and I have recently become interested in the history of Lent. Specifically, on when the tradition of giving something up began. I had figured it would have been a more recent adoption in the history of the church but was surprised to find that it originates all the way back to the council of Nicaea. This would mean that the tradition of giving something up for Lent is as old as Lent itself.
While trying to learn some more about the history of giving things up for Lent I found out that the rules for the Lenten fast has been loosened a few times since the Council of Nicaea. Most recently in 1966 when the Pope affirmed abstinence from “flesh” on Fridays. Meaning Catholics could now eat fish. This act from the pope opened the door to us hosting the Knights of Columbus Fish Frys.
I think that is neat.
Vivat Jesus!

Lenten Fish Fries
Our Lenten Fish Fries are approaching fast and begin Friday February 9th, running for 7 consecutive Fridays. Much help is needed to help make them successful.
Tasks include: Cooking, serving, washing/drying dishes, Friday gym set-up, and Saturday morning clean up after.
I am in great need of the following help:
1) setting up the Gym Friday afternoon 1pm-3pm for the Fish Fry 1 through 5.
2) Frying Fish for Fish Fry 1 through 3, 3pm-6:30/7
3) Frying french fries for Fish Fry 1 through 3, 4pm-7pm.
Many hands make light work, and a successful event.
Please start thinking about what you can do to help.
Contact Jeremy to ask what shifts are open and to Volunteer your help.

FS Notes
Have you moved, have you changed your phone number, have you made a change to your email address? Please keep the council updated when you have a change of address, change of phone number and finally a change to your email. It really helps us to keep track of where to send things to you. If you have any changes, please forward them onto the FS.
Please look at the back of your membership card. What do you see? It has my contact info. Please make sure your loved ones know this in case you are sick or have passed away.
Former Officers,
The FS is looking for Council Jewels that you may have in your possession. Please turn them in as soon as possible. Bring them to the office at St. Tim’s, we have a mail slot that they can be left in. Thank you.
Members in hospital etc.?
Please contact the FS so that the council can send a card.
Annual Fundraising Letter
You should be getting a letter looking at ways you can donate to some worthy causes. Please take the time to look it over. Included in that letter will be 2 Knight’s Foundation raffle tickets that hopefully you can buy. Half the money raised for that does come back to the council. Also included in the mailing is a note from our Grand Knight, he has listed a number of ways for everyone to help out the council.
