Grand Knights Message

Thank you to everyone who attended our year-end dinner. A special thank you to Jeremy for organizing the event and to Bev Broman for hosting us. I would also like to thank Alexandra, Michael, and Eleanor for assisting with the presentation of awards during the evening.

As we conclude another fraternal year, we can be happy and optimistic about our success. Our council has grown, and we have more members than we did at the beginning of the year. Pending approval of our submitted paperwork, we will also have earned the Star Council award.

I would like to express my sincere thank you to the council for the support, and assistance you have provided throughout the past year. I am especially thankful to our officers for their time and effort in helping to make our council successful.

I would also like to congratulate and thank all of our incoming officers, both in the Knights and the Ladies Auxiliary. Your willingness to serve and lead is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to working alongside you in the coming year.

I am very pleased with all that we have achieved this past year and am excited about the opportunities ahead. I look forward to working together as we continue to grow our council through Charity, Unity, and Fraternity and find new ways to support our parish and community.

Auxiliary News

Salve (Hello in Latin) Ladies,
Wow, it is already the end of our year. Time has flown by. I want to extend thanks to all of you as I have learned this role. I know I struggled in some parts, but I have also grown in others. I also want to thank everyone for the work we have completed this year, as it helps not only us as a council, but also our community. I look forward to what we can complete in the next year.

Here are a couple of reminders:
1) Installation of officers and yearly audit is Thursday, July 16th at 6 pm. This will be held at Jean’s house, and we will start the evening with snacks/appetizers. Only the officers are required to be present, but all are welcome.

2) Continue thinking of organizations you think would be a good place for us to make a donation to. We are looking for an organization (or two) to make a large donation to at the start of our next year. When we meet in September, we will discuss all proposed organizations and vote on which one to donate to.

Thank you everyone and I look forward to seeing everyone in September!

FS Notes
Have you moved, have you changed your phone number, have you made a change to your email address? Please keep the council updated when you have a change of address, change of phone number and finally a change to your email. It really helps us to keep track of where to send things to you. If you have any changes, please forward them onto the FS.

Please look at the back of your membership card. What do you see? It has my contact info. Please make sure your loved ones know this in case you are sick or have passed away.

Former Officers,
The FS is looking for Council Jewels that you may have in your possession. Please turn them in as soon as possible. Bring them to the office at St. Tim’s, we have a mail slot that they can be left in. Thank you.

Members in hospital etc.?
Please contact the FS so that the council can send a card.

Here is a reminder to send me your service hours as often as you would like. Many hours go by each day that we never hear about. Each day we all volunteer our time doing something above and beyond.

Membership Cards and Dues
Recently you should have received a mailing from the Financial Secretary. One group received membership cards and the other group it should have been your dues billing statement. Please take care of mailing back the statement with your due’s payment. Your quick action will save the council money, so we do not need to send out a second notice. Also, some of you received a note asking for updates either with phone numbers or email addresses. Please send that info in as soon as you can. We have at least 20 members that the phone number we have on record is not correct.

Safe Environment
The parish has asked us to provide regular training on Safe- Environment Guidelines for those that volunteer with us at Knights of Columbus events. Beginning this month, we will include these guidelines in the guidepost as an ongoing reference, outlining best practices for maintaining a safe and respectful environment. Please read the attachment at the end of the Guidepost to familiarize yourself with these guidelines.

Safe-Environment Guidelines for Volunteers

Core Responsibilities of Volunteers
• Model appropriate boundaries: Volunteers set the tone; children watch and imitate adult behavior.
• Stay observant and present: Your role often places you in direct contact with children, making you a key safeguard.
• Follow all organizational policies: Consistency protects both children and volunteers.
• Report concerns immediately: Volunteers are often the first to notice something unusual.

What Volunteers Should Watch For
• Sudden behavioral changes such as withdrawal, fear, or aggression.
• Adults seeking one-on-one access to a child.
• Boundary-testing behaviors like unnecessary physical contact.
• Children expressing discomfort around specific adults.
• Inappropriate digital communication between adults and minors.

Boundaries Volunteers Must Maintain
• Follow the rule of two. Never be alone with a child in a private or unobservable space.
• Avoid personal gifts or special favors.
• Use only approved communication channels — no private texting or social media messaging.
• Keep physical contact appropriate and limited to what is necessary and clearly welcomed.
• Redirect or report boundary violations even if they seem minor.

How Volunteers Should Respond to a Child’s Disclosure
• Stay calm and supportive — your reaction matters.
• Listen without judgment and avoid pressing for details.
• Reassure the child they did the right thing by speaking up.
• Do not promise secrecy — you must report.
• Report immediately to the designated authority and document factually.

Reporting Expectations for Volunteers
• Report suspicion, not proof — volunteers are not investigators.
• Follow the chain of reporting established by your organization.
• Act promptly — delays can increase risk.
• Maintain confidentiality and share information only with those who need to know.

Building a Safe Culture as a Volunteer
• Speak up when something feels “off” — instincts matter.
• Support fellow volunteers in maintaining boundaries.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay informed.
• Encourage transparency in all interactions.
• Prioritize the child’s well-being above convenience or social discomfort.
